Bollywood filmmaker Yash Chopra away at Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai where he was being treated for Dengue. He was 80 and succumbed to multiple organ failure.

A legendary filmmaker, Yash Chopra changed the face of romance in Bollywood to become a brand with numerous hits under his belt in his five-decade long illustrious career. He was one of the pillars in Bollywood, directed some of Indian cinema’s most successful and iconic films, including the action thriller “Deewar” which established Amitabh Bachchan as the “angry young man”

If Shahrukh Khan is called the king, Chopra was definitely the kingmaker. Chopra’s latest film Jab Tak Hain Jaan starring Shah Rukh Khan, Anushka Sharma and Katrina kaif is scheduled to release on diwali. He had indicated that this would be his last directorial venture.

Chopra has won several film awards, including six National Fila\m Awards and eleven Filmfare awards including four Filmfare award for Best Director. He is survived by wife and two sons, filmmaker Aditya Chopra and actor-producer Uday Chopra. He born in Lahore to a Punjab Family on September 27, 1932, moved to India after the Partition. Chopra’s original plan was to pursue a career in engineering. However, his passion for filmmake led him ti\o trvel to mMumbai where he initially worked as an assistance director to I S Johar, and then for his director producer brother B R Chopra.

In 1973, Chopra founded his own production house, Yash Raj Films. His association with Sharukh khan began with the 1983 romantic psychological thriller film Darr, which turned out to be a superhit with Sharukh Khan playing the role of an obsessed lover.

Chopra produced Indian cinema’s longest-running blockbuster, “Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge”(1995), which marked the debut of his son Aditya as director.

“ Jab Tak Hai Jaan” with Chopra at the helm for the last time, opens in cinemas in November, eight years after his last project “veer-Zaara”, a passionate tale of love across borders.

Chopra was a versatile filmmaker and his demise was a great loss for the Indian Film Industry.( Pranab Mukherjee, president)
